Painting on Wood

The painting of your motifs

It is not always comfortable to paint furniture, and discomfort may make your hand awkwardly. If you are painting more surfaces, it will be easier to sleep whenever your furniture to decorate your surface is horizontal. Once properly installed to your surface, place the wrist of the hand that painted on the palm of the hand opposite that it is based on the media to paint. Thus, your brush will not falter.

It is advisable to train on leaves, before embarking on the stand. For each pattern, practice several times to avoid making errors difficult to catch up on the wood. Get a book that offers exercises and basic reasons.

Patina or varnish

Once you have painted furniture, know that the last key will enhance all your work. Depending on the use of painted furniture, choose to protect it with a veneer (recommended for children’s rooms, bathrooms or kitchens) or a patina.

The matte finish gives depth to the grounds and brings out the colors. It satin cabinet, protects it from water, shock, or stupid children. It applies to flat brush in two layers with drying in between.

Seasoning reduces the brightness of colors, gives a soft fade. If you paint in the peasant spirit or Alsatian is the patina that you need. There are all ready in the skate shops of handicrafts, but you can do yourself to the former:

Apply with flat brush a coat of lacquer. Leave for 24 hours. Then brush with a brush weeds. Apply a second coat, 24-hour break, and brush again. Then wet your brush with liquid wax, and rub the surface of antique wax (tinted oak rendering darker) to mix the two waxes. Spread evenly over your furniture. Let dry 24 hours, ending with the brush weeds. The patina house must be redone periodically, annually or every two years.

You can insist on imitating the antique look or wear spots, emphasizing the dark wax on certain areas of the cabinet. Another trick to simulate scratches of old furniture: go on your furniture an abrasive pad to scratch your paint, and then skate: the wax will return into the grooves, giving a worn look very authentic.
